It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Gary D. Barish. Gary passed away in his
Lakewood, CO home on April 15, 2024, at the age of 81. Gary will be missed by those who knew and
loved him. Gary is survived by his wife of 42 years, Jeanne Barish of Lakewood, CO; his son, Robert (Bob)
Barish of Verona, NY, daughter Terry Barish of Vernon, NY and son Gary Stephen of Florida. Gary is also
survived by a sister, Sandra Wehrle of Lakewood, and brother Dale Barish (Linda) of San Antonio, TX and
Ron Barish of Denver, CO. Gary also had a stepson, Robert (Robbie) of Alma, CO.
Gary was preceded in death by his parents, Steve and Lillian Barish, a sister Estelle Barbee and brothers
in law Doug Barbee and Richard Wehrle along with several aunts, uncles, and cousins.
Gary valued his family and friends so the Barish’s would like to acknowledge his nephews Greg (Julianna)
and Earl Barbee (Melissa). He so valued the time spent with them and the lively conversations they
would have. The family would also like to acknowledge cousins Bill Barish and Alysia Allhouse, and Pam
Johnson for their friendship and support of Gary. The family thanks Dr. Steven Singer and Jackie Karsten
of the Family Medicine Clinic in Littleton, CO for the medical support and attention they provided Gary.
Gary served in the United States Air Force for four years before receiving an honorable discharge in
Rome, NY. Following his stint in the armed services, Gary took jobs with the Nunn’s Funeral home in
Rome, and a position with the Birnie Bus Company. He worked in Rome until returning with Jeanne to
Denver in July 1983. Gary then worked for the Regional Transportation District (RTD) as a mechanic,
which fit his natural aptitude perfectly. Gary worked at RTD until his retirement in 2010.
The family deeply misses Gary’s kind heart and willingness to help anyone in need. One of Gary’s many
admirable traits was his humble nature. He was able to troubleshoot and repair most anything and was
willing to share that ability with anyone in need. Gary was grounded in the love of family, friends, and his country.
To say our hearts are heavy with grief is an understatement. With Gary’s passing we are confronted with
the reality that we must continue without the physical presence of someone so special. As we face this
universal truth, we are comforted by the fact that Gary’s love, spirit, and positive influence continues to
live through each of us.
Gary’s Memorial service will be at Fort Logan National Cemetery on Thursday, May 16, 2024, at 1:30pm.
Fort Logan is located at 4400 W Kenyon Ave, Denver, CO 80236. A special thank you goes to the Newcomer’s Funeral Home (West Chapel) for handling the arrangements.
We ask that you honor Gary’s life through prayer and the memories you have of him.
