Gary Dempsey Obituary

Gary has a wife Kathy for over 60 years, 3 sisters (Jan, Vikki and Kathy), 2 children (Don and Jerry) and 3 grandchildren (Ryan, Jason and Marissa).

Gary was born in Dallas, TX on May 26, 1940 and he passed May 30, 2022.

Gary was raised in Dallas and Albuquerque with loving parents. He joined the Marines as a reservist after high school, followed by his start into the telephone company. He worked his way from the computer tape storage room up the ranks and retired as a Director with US West in 1996.

He met his wife Kathy in New Mexico and they dated long distance off and on until Kathy moved closer and also got a job at the telephone company. They married in Albuquerque on Sept. 2, 1960 and had 60 wonderful years together before Kathy passed.

Gary transferred to Denver in 1966 with the phone company, then transferred to New Jersey in 1970, and then back to Denver in 1973 where they stayed thereafter. Those years began a strong commitment to the church and multiple friends that remain true to this day.

Gary served the church in multiple capacities including the deacon board, teaching, ushering, and other leadership roles as called upon. This continued full time after Gary retired in 1996 where he gave his full energy to various organizations, namely the Inner City Health Clinic and both Bear Valley and Waterstone church organizations. Gary served multiple roles selflessly giving his time and abilities to these organizations.

Gary was a fantastic father raising Don and Jerry. Through the good times and the challenging ones, he never wavered on his love and commitment to his children by teaching them and loving them constantly. But Gary really shined as "Granddad" as he thoroughly enjoyed being with and spoiling them.

Gary's marriage to Kathy was a shining example of love and commitment. They worked to enhance their marriage with couples retreats, trips, and ultimate support to one another.

Gary was a meek, gentle, loving and detail oriented man who served God well using his strengths to his greatest ability. Gary was a fantastic friend, father, grandfather and husband.

If you feel led, and per Gary's request, in lieu of flowers please donate to Gary's top charity, The Salvation Army.
