Geneva K. Torrez

April 30, 1925 — May 24, 2021

Gene Torrez was born in Fort Collins, Colorado to Juan (John) and Rufugia (Ruth Armenta) Olmedo. She was raised in Fort Lupton, Colorado.

After completing the 8th grade, she went to work at the Rocky Mountain Arsenal making ammunition for WWII. There was an explosion in the factory during her employment, but she and her other sisters who also worked there escaped without harm. She later worked at Wright and McGill making fishing hooks. In the 1970s, she moved to California, where she worked making airplane parts.

After retiring, she moved back to Denver, Colorado where she spent the rest of her life.

She enjoyed gardening, fishing, camping and reading.

She is preceded in death by her parents, three brothers (Manuel, Jesse and Lloyd) and four sisters (Effie, Lupe, Lucy and Irene).

She is survived by three sisters (Isabel, Soffie, and Helen), one brother (Sonny) and several nieces and nephews, as well as several great-nieces and great-nephews, extended family, and friends.

Her services will occur June 9th, 2021 a visitation from 9-10am, funeral service 10-11am, and will process to Mount Olivet for burial.
