George S. Cribari
December 20, 1929 – May 30, 2022
George Cribari, a lifelong resident of Edgewater, passed away peacefully after a long illness. He is preceded in death by his parents, his high school sweetheart and wife of 63 years, Cis, and son Dennis.
He is survived by his children Nancy (Christopher) Cross and Billy (Beverly) Cribari, sister-in-law Freida Chavez, and many grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces, and nephews.
George was born and raised in Denver, a first-generation Italian American, and lived in the same house in Edgewater since 1954. Many referred to it as the house with the restored black and red '46 Chevy truck in the driveway. He graduated from West High School in 1947 and served in the Army as a veterinary technician, achieving the rank of Staff Sergeant before being honorably discharged.
He enjoyed a 30+ year career with the USPS as a letter carrier and served as a consultant and union representative for many years.
Shooting pool was a favorite past-time and many days you could find him at the pool hall as a spectator or participant. He loved the game but treated it as serious business. Many who met him at the pool hall became life-long friends.
He bowled, played baseball, and slow pitch softball well into his sixties. He enjoyed attending Rockies games – lemonade and a bag of peanuts were always on the menu. He had a love of cars and restored a 1935 Ford Coupe along with the '46 Chevy truck.
He was a devoted husband, loving father and Papa, and loyal friend. His sense of humor, stories of the old days, and encyclopedic knack for trivia will be missed.
