George Neill Stokes

George Neill Stokes, 94, passed away on September 2nd. George was born in 1930 to Edith and James Stokes in Chipley, Florida. He joined the Air Force in 1948 and spent 26 years serving his country, retiring in 1974. His later career was as a financial advisor/planner for John Hancock Insurance. George loved Colorado and was a fiercely dedicated Denver Broncos fan. 

George married the love of his life, Helen Carroll in 1956, and together, they raised 2 children over the years. Helen preceded him in death in September 2013. 

He is survived by his son Mark Stokes and daughter Michelle Strickland and their spouses, Nancy Stokes and David Strickland. He is also survived by 4 grandchildren, Neill (wife Susanne) and Alissa Stokes; and Cory Strickland and Nicole Cibula (husband Mark), a great granddaughter, Cara, and a great grandson on the way.

A strong and loving family has always surrounded George--Parents, children, aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces and nephews, and he found nothing more fulfilling than to spend time with all his family and friends.

A celebration of life will be planned at a future date. Family asks that in lieu of flowers, donations be made to the American Heart Association in George’s name.
