Georgina Flanigan of Aurora, passed away July 13, 2008 at the VA Nursing Home in Aurora, Colorado. She was a beloved wife, sister, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, mother-in-law, aunt, godmother, and friend.
Georgina was the third child out of five born to Joseph and Anna (Ramaeker) Kurtenbach in Greeley, Nebraska on April 10, 1926. She graduated from Greeley Sacred Heart High School in 1943. In 2005, at the age of 80, she received an honorary bachelor's degree in business administration from St. Mary's Catholic College, Omaha, Nebraska.
Georgina married Harry D. Flanigan on April 26, 1948 at St. Michael's Catholic Church in Spalding, NE. They farmed until 1956, when they moved to Aurora with their five children. She worked as a bookkeeper for Woolworth's before retiring. She also worked as a tax accountant for her brother-in-law, James Flanigan. She was a parishioner of St. Therese Catholic Church for 52 years in Aurora. She was a lifetime member of the Auxiliary of the Knights of Columbus and Altar and Rosary Society. Georgina spent over 30 years compiling family genealogy, covering four generations. She enjoyed sewing and made crafts to share and give to family and friends. One of the many long cherished special gifts were the blankets she gave to multiple family members and friends.
She is preceded in death by her parents, Joseph and Anna and siblings Anna Marie, Cordelia, and Jack (Eileen).
She is survived by her five children, Joseph (Debra), Mary Anna (John) Teller, Patrick (Mary Lou), Jane (Gregory) Comer, and Joan (Francisco) Ferrer. Her grandchildren include: Joanna Downing Flanigan, Patrick (Jamie), Jonathan, and Harold (Julie) Teller, Anna Ferrer (Brian Rulla), and Mathew (Savannah), Phebe and Mary Comer. Her great grandchildren include: Lauren and Emily Teller, Samantha and Jessica Teller, and Daniel Comer. She is also survived by her brother, Rev. Harold Kurtenbach and many relatives.
Family and friends are invited to the rosary on Thursday, July 17 at 7 p.m. with viewing from 6-7PM, and the Funeral Mass, Friday, July 18 at 10 a.m. Both will be held at St. Therese Church, 1243 Kingston St., Aurora, CO 80010. Interment will follow the Mass at Fort Logan National Cemetery, Denver, CO (12:00 pm area "A"). In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the St. Therese Building Fund.
