Rev. Gerald Eugene Brooks (Jerry) began life on December 14, 1928, in Colo, Colorado. Life ended in Castle Rock, Colorado. on May 17, 2024, with his family praying and singing him into the presence of Jesus. He was 95 years old.
Gerald was preceded in death by his father Harold Brooks, mother Lorene Wampler) Brooks, sister Gwen Needham, and brothers Alston (Shorty) Brooks and Bob Brooks and his wife, June (Lohman) Brooks.
Jerry met June at the skating rink in Denver, Colorado. She had wonderful rhythm and sparkling eyes and of course she was very cute. June turned 18 in June and Jerry was 22. June always said she was attracted to his blue eyes and Air Force uniform. They were married the first of July, 1951. They lived in Denver, Colorado for about two years.
Jerry was in the Air Force for 20 years. They were stationed in many places. In the States they lived in Colorado, California, Massachusetts, Mississippi and Iowa. Overseas they were in Newfoundland 5 years and Germany 5 years. One year Jerry was stationed by himself in Thailand and June and the children lived near his family in Cedar Rapids, Iowa. They enjoyed seeing many places while overseas including; Germany, Bavaria, Holland, Belgium, Luxemburg, England, Italy, Austria, France, Prague and Switzerland.
Their first son, Rodney, was born on May 31st, 1952 at Fitzsimmons Army hospital in Denver.
Their daughter, Susan, was born August 26th, 1955 at St. Luke’s hospital in Cedar Rapids, Iowa.
Their third child, Michael was born on July 21st, 1957 at Pepperrell Air Force Base, Newfoundland, Canada.
It was while on a sixty-day leave after serving in Germany for five years that Gerald and June were introduced to Jesus. Aunt Gladys and Uncle Mike Walker invited the family to visit them in Bell, California, and while there, Aunt Gladys and Uncle Mike asked them to go to church with them. The people were so gracious and Jerry found out later that Aunt Gladys had the whole church praying for them. Monday night Jerry prayed with the pastor. The pastor asked June if she wanted to pray and she said, “no, I’m a Christian.” Aunt Gladys gave her the Gospel of John to read while they traveled. Praise the Lord!!! It was about six weeks later, the first week of August, 1965, that June asked Jesus to be her Lord and Savior.
Life was never the same. Jerry went to the Bible College in Colorado and eventually was ordained. They served the Lord in pastorates in New Mexico, Iowa, Kentucky, Arkansas and California and also as evangelists. Who would have ever believed that God could take such broken vessels and use them for HIS glory? Praise the Lord!
God has been, and is, so good. Jerry celebrated 66 years of marriage before June went to Heaven in 2017. Their children all found wonderful Christian spouses.
They retired in 1993 to Olathe, KS.
