Gladys Geraldine "Geri" (Oakley) Wrightman died peacefully in her home in Denver, Colorado on Sunday, May 8, 2022.
Geri is survived by her daughters Roz Wrightman Madrid and Pam (Rick) Warren; step-daughter, Juli (Ron) Salberg; grandchildren Danny (Melanie) Warren, Eric (Karlee) Warren, Tawni (Adam) Albers, Katie Madrid and Kelsi (Keenan) Coit; great-grandchildren Teegan Warren, Averee Warren, Ali Warren, Brynlee Warren, Jayden Madrid-Kitchen, Chozen Reynolds, Aiden Albers, Tinley Albers and Trae Albers; and Step Granddaughter Stephanie (Kevin) Rawson and many loving nieces and nephews. She is preceded in death by her husband Frederick Efnor Wrightman, Jr.; daughter Kathleen "Katie" Wrightman and step-son Frederick Wrightman, III; parents Carl Hamblin Oakley, Sr. and Anna Marie Vidmar Oakley; siblings Phillip, Robert, Carl, Jr., Louanna (Snyder), Eugene and Alvey; and her sister-in-law, Rosalie "Rose" (Stephen) Treacy.
Geri was born January 15, 1931 and raised on 257 Perry Street in Denver, Colorado with her 6 siblings. She graduated high school from West High School in 1949. On November 9, 1956 she married Frederick Efnor Wrightman, Jr. of Sabetha,KS in Seneca, Kansas. Fred and Geri had three children, Roz, Pam and Katie and Geri had two step-children, Fred and Juli. Geri raised her children in their home on 125 Brentwood Street, Lakewood, Colorado until she went to work at GEICO in the 1970's for 15 years and then "retired". When her husband Fred passed in late 1990, Geri sold their home on Brentwood Street and bought an apartment at Windsor Gardens in 1992 and quickly joined the Windsorettes Women's Golf League and was very active in both golf and in the Windsor Gardens Community as a whole. She loved golf so much and golfed through last summer (age 90 and 2.5 hip replacements later, still going strong on the course). Geri went on to work at Club Demonstration Services for Costco in late 1999 as a short-term "gig" to keep her busy…..22 years later at age 90, she resigned. As Mom always said "to keep young you need to keep working". She gained so many lifetime friends – other parents and neighbors – through staying home raising her children, during her tenure at GEICO, her Windsor Gardens family, and her tenure at CDS/Costco. She was loved by all and we are certain that all of them have great memories and stories of their friendships.
Her family remembers Geri as a fierce, hard-working, feisty, funny, selfless, giving and loving Mother, Grandma, Great Grandma, and Aunt who ALWAYS put others first, even in her final days before her passing. A few days before as some family members were visiting, she looked around as she was saying good-bye to some and said "gosh I'm lucky" – "no Mom/Grandma, WE are the lucky ones"! What a legacy she leaves; she will forever be in our hearts and will be greatly missed.
