Gwendolyn Beth Cain

May 7, 1929 — February 15, 2021

Gwen was a native of Colorado and was born in Edgewater which is located near Sloans Lake. Her Dad came to Jefferson County in 1892 when he was 2 and her mother moved to Colorado from Michigan. Gwen's parents were in their 40's when she was born. Her sister Marian, was 13 at the time and was responsible for naming her Gwendolyn. Gwen became and aunt to Nida and Sheryl when she was just a teenager.

Gwen graduated from Edgewater High School in 1947 and then from St. Lukes School of Nursing in 1951. She married Jim in 1950 and they raised 4 children in the Bear Creek area. Later she worked for Colorado State in the Motor Vehicle Department and retired in 1994.

Gwen was an active person. She loved all kinds of sports and teams including the Broncos, Rockies and Nuggets. She also played on softball teams along with coaching her daughters' softball team. She loved singing, playing the piano and organ, square dancing and traveling across the U.S. and a wonderful trip to Europe.

Things that she loved included piano, penguins, purple and pool. Music was important and she was in many church choirs. She would always say she was "Pen Gwen" and her favorite color was purple. After retirement she could no longer bowl due to back problems so she took up playing pool at age 67. Gwen was a member of the American Pool Association and played on multiple teams (both 8 ball and 9 ball). She played well winning many trophies. She was so excited to go to the National Pool tournament in Las Vegas and enjoyed being with her team and close friends. She finally retired from pool at age 90. Who says you are too old to learn something new?

Gwen is survived by 3 of her children and their spouses, 9 grandchildren, 9 great grandchildren and her niece. She loved her family very much. She also loved being involved in church activities and faith in God and Jesus defined her life ever since she was a teenager. Her life was not always easy or perfect but she wanted others to know that "My Faith in God and Jesus as my Savior is my life (church and bible study)".

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Gwen's name to Diabetes Association, Cancer Research or Alzhiemers Association.
