Frecka, Haroldine Doris
1-23-1926 to 4-2-2018
Haroldine was Born January 23, 1926 in Stromsburg Nebraska to Pearl Viola Johnson and Harold Johnson. She spent her first five years in Nebraska as she would say in a storm shelter due to so many tornados. Her family left Nebraska when her mother contracted tuberculous and was told to go to a drier climate. The family started out in the Garden Home area but eventually hand built a home in the Westwood area. The home that her dad built still stands today.
Haroldine as so many others lived through the depression era. They made use of every living thing and found uses for so many items that we today would throw away.
Haroldine worked at Russell Stover during her teen years and brought her parents home chocolates which were a treat to be had.
She graduated from Garden Home high school at the age of 17. She married shortly after that and left for California with ten dollars in her pocket. She worked in the shipyards at Long beach until her young marriage fell apart. She returned to her home in Colorado.
Haroldine met her future husband Robert at a dance she attended with a girlfriend. Haroldine was hooked up with Robert's best friend which she did not like. Subsequently her and her girlfriend switched dates and history was made. Robert and Haroldine were married at her parents' home three months later.
Haroldine and Robert made their home in the Mar-Lee area of Denver. In 1953 they adopted their first child Richard Lee and in 1956 their second child Sheryl Ann. Haroldine's children were her life. She was active throughout their school years and into their adulthood.
Haroldine's 3rd love came about when her son Richard and his wife had their first grandchild, Shannon. Followed by grandchildren Louis, Monica, Ben Jr., and Aaron. She always adored each and everyone of her grandchildren and great grandchildren.
Haroldine and Robert vacation time was usually spent fishing or hunting with friends. They travelled throughout the United States and made two large trips, one to the east coast and the other to Alaska.
Haroldine knew no strangers, as things happened once she started talking to you, you had a friend for life. She crocheted, knitted and did crafts daily. As many family members will tell you they each have an afghan made especially for them by Haroldine. Her sense of humor got her through some tough times in her life. She never lost it.
She was active in several organizations, Westwood Christian Church, American Legion, Elks Aux., home demonstration club, Watkins Products, and especially dear to her heart the Adoptive Mothers Club.
Haroldine is preceeded in death by her husband Robert and son Richard. She is survived by daughter Sheryl(Benjamin) Lopez, granddaughters Shannon Jones and Monica (Scott) Chambers, grandsons Louis Lopez, Ben Lopez Jr, and Aaron (Bethani) Lopez, twelve great grandchildren, thirteen great great- grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. She will be missed by all.
