Harry Lee Smith

September 9, 1929 — November 2, 2023

Harry Lee Smith was born on September 9, 1929 in Byers, Colorado to John W. Smith and Lula M. (Hutsell) Smith, both of whom preceded him in death. He passed away peacefully at his home on November 2, 2023.

He married the love of his life, Bonnie J. (Secrest) Smith in December of 1948 and they remained together for nearly 70 years until her passing in 2018. Together they had three children, a son Randal Smith, and two daughters, Valerie Smith-Hibbert, and Joy Murphy.

Harry grew up and attended elementary, middle school and high school in Byers, Colorado. He grew up in a large family with a mother, four brothers and two sisters. His father passed unexpectedly when Harry was only two years old so he never had the opportunity to know him. After working for a short time at various jobs, Harry found his calling and became a carpenter. After working for a couple of construction firms, he struck out on his own and spent the rest of his working life as a self-employed carpenter and general contractor. A true master craftsman in wood, he constructed everything from houses and commercial buildings to children's toys. When not working at warp speed, he liked to water ski, hike in the mountains, and climb Colorado's 14'ers. He also enjoyed traveling, visiting museums, historical sites, and State and National Parks.

Throughout his life Harry enjoyed gatherings and outings with his large family. He had four brothers, William, Arlie, Dorman, and Clifford; and two sisters, Marie, and Mernie, all of whom preceded him in death. He is survived by his three children, one daughter in law (Judy Smith), one son in law (Mike Hibbert), eight grandchildren, and fifteen great grandchildren. The void created by his passing will be felt by his family for all time.
