Helen "Davey" Gibson was born in Monte Vista, Colorado on May 19, 1924, to Doyle and Philene David. At the age of 95, she went to be with her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, on November 26, 2019. She was predeceased by her husband, Dr. Matthew L. Gibson Jr. and son Matt "Larry". She is survived by sons David (Susan), Billy (Denise), Terry; daughters Amy (Tim) Stockham, Laurie, and daughter-in-law Renee; grandchildren Julie, Katie, Keilan, Richard, Emily and Greg; great-grandchildren Liam, Brian, Jacob and Natalie; and numerous nephews and nieces.
After growing up on farms in the San Luis Valley, she attended nursing school at Mercy Hospital in Denver. She became a Navy Cadet Nurse and served at Oakland Naval Hospital during WWII, where she met her husband. They returned to the Valley and married on September 11, 1946. After living in Pittsburgh and Washington, D.C., Davey and Larry moved back to Colorado with one son; three more sons and two daughters followed. They eventually settled in Aurora, Colorado where she was very active in her community, especially politics, her church and Al-Anon.
She was a great mom, attending countless sporting events and was a Girl Scout leader. Sewing and gardening also filled her days. An original Bronco season ticket holder, she was famous for her cowbell. Mom was a stunning beauty and a devoted wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. Her faith in Jesus sustained her life and we know she will spend eternity with Him in heaven.
