Helen Frances McCrumb was born on October 5, 1940 in Fort Worth, Texas to Robert McCrumb and Silva Lee Alexander. Helen attended Blackshear High School in San Angelo, Texas for Elementary and Middle School, where she was a pom-majorette, won several spelling bees and sang in the school choir. In 1952, her mother relocated to Denver, CO where Helen attended West High School. Helen was quite popular at West High School where she sang in the choir and participated in the school plays. One of the most memorable events was that Helen was the star at the top of the annual Singing Christmas Tree that West High lit up each year. This was a pioneering event as Helen was the first Black to top the star! Beautiful, Talented and Bright, Helen was advanced a grade and graduated High School at age 16. Helen furthered her education by attending Colorado Teachers College after graduation. Helen retired from United Airlines, October 2001 with numerous customer services awards, letters and accolades.
Helen always had a smile on her face and an encouraging word about what God can do! Her journey with Christ began early in life as she was baptized at the age of 5 in Texas and again in 1954 at New Hope Baptist Church. Later joining Macedonia Baptist Church and Ebenezer Baptist Church, Helen was active in many ministries throughout her journey with Christ, but her gift and calling was singing for the Lord. Helen's crystal clear first soprano voice could be heard singing songs like, "The Blood", "Through it All", "Only what you do for Christ will Last" and so many more to uplift our hearts. Her God given gift, lead her to sing for the Pope, Christy Brinkley, numerous local and state officials and sharing her vocals on others albums.
If you knew Helen, you know that she loved her children and grand-children, Mark and Alicia, Sahia and Sydney. One of her favorite sayings was, "Don't mess with the Lion's cubs" and she lived by it. She was an extraordinary mother that filled the home and the hearts of her family and friends with laughter and love. With her beautiful smile and an open heart, Helen touched so many throughout her life. She had a way about her that made everyone feel important and loved. She always had something funny to say to help lighten someone's load and then she would smile and said, "Have you prayed about it?" Helen was instrumental in leading many to Christ and remained faithful to her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ to the very end.
After all was said and done, on Saturday, October 3, 2020, while at St Joseph's Hospital, surrounded by her children and grandchildren, our Father in Heaven sent a message to Helen Frances Lee to "Come and Rest".
