I am so honored that you are here paying your last respect to a wonderful woman.
There are some of you today, that did not get the chance of actually meeting or knowing my mom, but are here supporting me and I thank you from the bottom of my heart.
To those here who knew mom well, I am sad that she is gone, but grateful of the many years and memories we shared. She was not only the best mother, but also like a sister, and my best friend. We lived a good life. I have some cherished memories to reflect on when I find myself missing my sweet Mutti {that's German for mom}.
Yes, Mutti was from Germany and came to this country in 1955 when she was 13. She didn't know a word of English, but knew every Elvis Presley song. She taught herself the language while listening to his songs and attending school for awhile until Grandma needed her at home.
She loved life and lived it to the fullest! She often would say to me "don't ever deny yourself anything and live life as if it's your last day". She also said "never put off anything tomorrow what you can do today." She enjoyed dressing up and going out to dinner and dancing. One of her favorite things to do was to cook and be surrounded by family and dear friends. She was in her "GLORY" when everyone would be sitting at a big table eating, laughing and enjoying her cooking. We bought her a t-shirt that said: Let the Praise for my Cooking Begin and would wear it often! I can just see her in heaven cooking for everyone while having Jesus sit at the head of the table. I can almost hear her asking everyone at the table: "Do you like my food"?
Mom loved to travel with me and while I was working on Johnston Island we traveled all over the world together. We went to Europe several times, Scandinavia, England, Scotland, Wales, Greece, the South Pacific, Australia, New Zealand and her favorite Hawaii. She visited every Island and this was her favorite paradise. She fell in love with Hawaii and was like a little kid when I came home bringing her a Lei. She would wear that Lei until it was turning brown and falling off of her while boasting to her co-workers at Samsonite: "Look what my daughter brought me from Hawaii"!
I will miss my mother, but I know for certain, she is in a better place and no longer suffering from dementia. She loved the Lord and I know she is right there with Him, her mom (Ottilie), her brother (Wally), her sister (Lillie) and her husband (Joe)--oh, and her doggies, never forget our furry family members. Lucky was her last dog and I'm sure she has him on her lap as we speak.

To my sweet mutti, when I join you in heaven, I shall bring you a beautiful Lei that will never turn brown and fall apart--until we meet again.
Your loving daughter--Karin
