Henry "Albie" Hurst Iii

February 8, 1955 — October 11, 2021

Henry Alban Hurst, III, known fondly as Albie, died peacefully on October 11th surrounded by his family. He was 66.

The grandson of the founder of Hurst Linens in Philadelphia, Albie was a kind and gentle soul who was very attentive to his granddaughter, Niyah Lynn. The two would spend hours on the playground and he was known to many of the kids as "grandpa". He loved animals and knew the names of all the dogs in the Mission Viejo neighborhood.

Albie was on the Avalon, New Jersey, Beach Patrol for many summers and was responsible for saving a few lives. He went on to start European TanSpa in Willow Grove, Pennsylvania. Then he moved to Colorado and became the top performer for Accent Windows.

Albie spent many years managing petition signature gathering for the state of Colorado along with Scott Lamm, the son of the late former Colorado Governor, Dick Lamm. Albie's wife of nearly 29 years, Susan Heath, assisted with notarizing thousands of petitions. One of the notorious campaigns was the effort to legalize marijuana. Colorado became the second state in the nation by literally hours to legalize cannabis for recreational use.

Albie also was a book buyer at college campuses across the Western United States. He was a pro at double-taping boxes for shipment to the publisher.

Albie and Susan began their educational journey in life at St. Thomas Nursery School in Fort Washington, Pennsylvania. Though three years a part, they both went from kindergarten to graduation at Germantown Academy, where Albie played on the Varsity Football team beginning Freshman year. Always competitive, his love of football extended to his adult life, volunteering his time coaching grade school football players and keeping a meticulous weekly chart of stats and family member winners.

Both Albie and Susan graduated from Syracuse University in Upstate New York, where Albie served a few years as President of the Psi Upsilon Fraternity.

Survivors include his wife, Susan, of Aurora, his three sons, Jonathan of Aurora, Derek of Japan and Christopher of Boulder, and his granddaughter, Niyah Lynn. Granddaughter Natalee Marie predeceased him along with his father, Henry A. Hurst, Jr. and his mother, Nancy Ellen Roberts.
