Homer Donald Riddle
Born April 15,1938 to Edward Thomas Riddle and Eva Rebecca Dixon in Laredo, Texas. His father was career military for the United States Army.During his childhood he was raised in the south. He was the youngest of 6 boys and had 1 younger sister.
His military service was in the United States Air Force, while stationed in London he was sent home to care for his mother as his father was terminally ill and passed away in 1958.After the death of his father he moved to Denver which would become his home.
There he met the love of his life Thelma Louise Morley,a farm girl from Villagreen Colorado who was living in Denver with her sister Frankie. After a short time they married and gave birth to the first of 4 children,Deborah Sue ,it was 1959.In 1961 came Eva Marie,in 1963 came Edward William and finally Donna Louise in 1967.
During our childhood he worked as a truck driver for IML freight lines,he was a member of the Teamster Union. As a truck driver he participated in truck rodeos and received several safe driving awards,he was very proud of the awards.
As a truck driver he met a lot of people, and they became lifetime friends, some of those people still meet every month for coffee,he looked forward to those coffee times with his truck driving buddies.
In his younger years he was a big man, stood tall amongst us all and would fight for what he believed in,was always a protector for those he loved and cared about. He was the biggest dad on the block and he was always ready to help a friend in need.He enjoyed camping and hunting.
Dad didn't talk a lot about his childhood, his brothers were much older and were already in the military but he did talk of how Minnie Pearl and Grandpa Jones having lived down the road from him when he was a child. He was also proud of the fact that he had met Elvis Presley before Elvis did the Louisiana Hayride.
As we grew older mom and dad were finally able to afford some vacations, dad loved to plan these trips and would start planning almost a year ahead of time, what routes they would take, where they would stop, what they would see.He loved to travel until it became to difficult for him.
When he became a grandfather in 1980,I think that was when he truly settled down and concentrated on being a family man.He loved his children but he really loved being a grandfather.Through the years mom and dad watched 11 of these beautiful people come in the world, dad always said he never had an ugly grandchild every one of them are beautiful and perfect.
Michael Robert was his first and with the exception of his blue eyes he is his grandpa's twin,in size, stature and personality, then came David Matthew,David has the anry side of dad,Then came Eddie,Melody Jeremy,Brian,Samantha,Megan and finally Christopher.Dad started telling the boys jokes,Mark my husband told him that he hadn't told the boys the birds and the bees yet.
While there are so many stories to tell of things that have happened through the years,it can be honestly said that he loved us all.All the friend, family, people who took care of him when he became ill.He was able to see his first great grandchild come into the world Scarlett Rose.He would never call her Scarlett, he always called her the Rose.By the time Owen Robert came to us he was to ill but Owen carries the traits of his great grandfather,a ready smile and a twinkle in the eye.
Through these grandchildren and great grandchildren his legacy will continue on.
Mom and I have tried to give all of you who may read these a little bit about the man Homer D was,the next paragraphs are feelings from Bill,Eva and Donna.

I will love you always,
Eva, Jay,Jeremy and Brian
From Bill
Dad,
I had always hoped we would have a better relationship.Once I got older our relationship did become better. The things I always admired about you was the different types of relationships you had with all of your granchildren, you were always the fun grandparent, how they would jump on you on the floor, how you played with them.
The one thing you did well was take care of your vehicles, you never let them break down,I wish I had the same desire to take care of my vehicles.
We didn't always see eye to eyebut we did get along,as we got older.Dad I will miss the visits with the donuts and our bets on the Bronco games, deep down inside you were a closet Bronco fan, when I watch the Broncos I will always think of you.As a Christian Dad I had always hoped you would see Jesus the way I do but God is full of grace and mercy,God is full of love.I am sure He reached you and we will see you again in Heaven.Love you dad.
Love,
Bill
