Howard William Hankey was born and raised in Erie PA. Howard's first career was in the wholesale plumbing business where he moved to FL, GA, TX, and OK before finding his way to Denver. Howard transitioned his career to Telecommunications and ultimately retired from AT&T.
Shortly after moving to Denver, he decided to attend a Timberline Tall Club party at Susan's, and their love story began. Howard and Susan married in a joyous celebration in Evergreen CO on June 20, 2000.
Howard and Susan were avid travelers and were always planning the next adventure. Scotland and golfing at St. Andrews was the next planned destination.
Howard enjoyed 6 years of retirement pursuing his passion, golf and a beautiful yard at home! He was an avid athlete playing baseball and golf throughout his life. His competition pursuing Long Drive Championships took him far and wide. He made many friends in the Long Drive world. Howard hit the golf ball 405 yards in one competition. Their trip to Carmel with friends to play Pebble Beach was one of their favorite adventures.
Howard played in several men's clubs and played for most of the 22 years he lived in Lakewood at Foot Hills. He valued his friendships in the golf world.
Howard was a gentleman competitor and a gentleman in life. Howard was always ready with a cloth hanky whenever Susan was in need.
Howard and Susan shared their love for family and friends and their many dogs. They loved entertaining and Howard's warm smile welcomed many guests into their home for countless gatherings where he was always a gracious host.
Howard is survived by his loving wife, Susan A. Williams, his niece Mary (Sean) Kutzmas of PA, nephew Harry (Lisa) Honard of Erie, PA, and great nephew Noah. Howard's extended family lives in Fredrick, MD and the east coast.
A memorial service for Howard will be held on January 13, 2022 at 1:00pm at Mile Hi Church, 9077 W. Alameda Ave., Lakewood, CO 80226 in the Vogt Auditorium. In lieu of flowers, please make a donation to your favorite animal rescue. A celebration of his life will be scheduled in the future at one of his golf courses.
