Ida Baca peacefully entered the Kingdom of Heaven on Wednesday, August 11, 2010. A native Coloradoan, Ida was born on August 25, 1925 in Trinidad and was preceded in death by Gilbert Roybal. She was happily married to George Baca for 56 years. Ida was the proud mother of six children including Ann Martinez (Sam), Norma Jimenez (Dan), Leon Baca (Susan), Loren Baca (Deborah), Alvin Baca and Wayne Baca (Adelma). She raised a close-knit family with all of her children living within a 10-mile radius of her. There was nothing that Ida loved more than children and was a doting grandmother to 15 grandchildren: Jodine Abeyta, Cindy Gentile, Michele Balmus, Derrick Valdez, Danielle Pereira, Dax Jimenez, Krista Montano, Anneliese Edstrom, Brandon Baca, Lorie Baca, Dina Baca, Natalie Baca, Nina Diaz, Derrick Baca and Daniel Baca. Ida was also blessed with 20 great-grandchildren including: Adrian Abeyta, Amanda Abeyta, Johnny Gentile, Lauren Gentile, Brittany Valdez, Brianna Balmus, Bailey Balmus, Darrin Valdez, Vanessa Valdez, Christian Pereira, Ambrose Montano, Elle Montano, Ava Edstrom, Allie Edstrom, Austin Sierra, Joseph Muniz, Archie Martinez, Andrew Diaz, Kaleb Baca and Mya Baca. Jayse Valdez was her first great-great-grandchild and later this fall, Ida would have welcomed one more great-grandchild, Aliesia Trujillo, and her second great-great-grandchild Amilia Abeyta. She is survived by all and one brother Gilbert Baca (Eppie).
In addition to raising a family, Ida gave back to the community by working for the Salvation Army for 25 years. She loved to dance at family celebrations, play bingo with her devoted husband and friends and take the occasional visit to Central City where she enjoyed playing the quarter slot machines – which she affectionately called her "therapy."
