Ilse Morris

July 2, 1935 — March 27, 2020

Ilse was born on July 2, 1935, to Hans and Frieda Schrenker, and sister Lotte Schrenker, in Furth Germany. Upon completion of trade school, she worked at Modehaus Fiedler. On June 11, 1955 she married Lt. Arnold "Ace" Morris. She came to the United States in early 1956.

As the wife of an Army officer, she became quite adept to the moving every couple of years and lived in Fort Polk, LA, Fort Rucker, AL, Fort Sill/Lawton, OK, Aurora, CO, Mineral Wells, TX and two tours in Germany. The first tour to Germany was made with a 5-year-old, 3-year-old, one-year old, and an infant. She became a naturalized U.S. Citizen in 1960 and also learned to drive that year. She was a wonderful mother and always put her kids first. She learned to sew so she could make dresses for her girls and later made most of her children's Halloween costumes. As a new bride she couldn't even boil water according to her mom, but she became quite the accomplished cook and baker. She was known for her German apple cake!

In the early 1970's she went to work part-time at the Lowry Base Exchange as a stock clerk and over the years worked her way up to department manager. This is quite an accomplishment for someone who never took a formal English class. She made many lifelong friends while working at the BX and was loved by co-workers as well as those who shopped there. She retired after working there for over 30 years and then went to work part-time at the Fitzsimmons Post Exchange for a while.

Ilse loved to go out dancing and found great friends at The Edelweiss Club in Commerce City. Even after working at the Base Exchange all day she was always ready to go dancing! Ilse was a great friend. She was truly happy when a friend came into good fortune. In her later years as she was not able to dance anymore, she still enjoyed getting together with friends and was always ready to go "up the hill" to Blackhawk with friends or daughter-in-law Patti.

Ilse passed away peacefully at home on March 27, 2020, from complications due to VHL disease. She leaves behind daughter Jane Beasley and husband Chuck, Kurt Morris, Ken Morris and wife Patti, grandchildren Jessica Morris, Jason Beasley (Shawna), Cliff Taylor, Jennifer Morris, Lindsay Barr (Travis), Marissa Beasley, Andrea Taylor, Allison Morris, Charli Morris, Kyli Gill (Ben), Jami Doubleday (Brandon), and Mason Doubleday, and great-grandchildren Dominic Morris, and Catalina Barr, nephew Peter Vogel and his daughter Sabrina Vogel, and brother-in-law Werner Disterrer.

Ilse was preceded in death by father Hans Schrenker, mother Frieda Schrenker, sister Lotte Disterrer, and daughter Frieda Taylor.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial donations be made to The VHL Alliance at vhl.org. VHL disease affected Ilse, her sister, all four children and five of her grandchildren.
