Inez I. Curtis

Inez Ivern Curtis
May 25, 1919 – February 10, 2009

Inez was the 4th of 9 children born to Walter S. and Clara (Lee) Smith. She was born May 25, 1919 in Grand County Colorado on the Smith Family ranch which is just north of what is now Green Mountain Reservoir. Inez spent her early childhood days on the ranch. She attended nearby Hillcrest School and later, Kremmling High School where she graduated in 1938. She worked as a waitress at the La Casa Cafe in Kremmling. It was there where she met her soon-to- be husband, Lynn. He was working on the Green Mountain Dam project and became a frequent patron of the cafe. They were married in Laramie, Wyoming in May of 1939. A couple of years after they were married, Inez and Lynn moved to Denver where they raised their three children – Larry, Lynnora, and Karen.

Inez was a very good cook and a great hostess. She enjoyed family get-togethers and parties with friends. She and Lynn had many friends throughout their years together. She loved to dance. She enjoyed playing bridge, pinochle and golf. She also enjoyed travelling – especially to visit family.

After her children were along in school, Inez took a job at Schwayder Bros. in Denver where she worked for 10 years and enjoyed many friendships. After the family moved to Englewood in 1954, she took a job as a bookkeeper for Englewood State Bank where she remained for 13 years. There, too, she developed many lasting friendships.

In 1967, Lynn's job took them to Sioux Falls, SD for a couple of years and later to Kansas City. While in Kansas City, Inez worked 10 years for Raytown Bank. They remained in Kansas City, until Lynn retired in 1981. Soon thereafter, they returned to settle and live out their retirement years among family and friends in the Denver area. Inez and Lynn would have celebrated their 70th anniversary this May.

Family was central to Inez's life. She made it a special point to keep aware of what was happening with each of her three children, her eleven grandchildren and her fifteen great-grandchildren.

Inez was a proud lady who, by her example, taught true love and friendship to many. She loved a party and celebration. Seeing her family and friends gathered to celebrate her life would bring her much joy and happiness.
