Ingrid V. Kienitz

July 30, 1940 — November 10, 2023

Ingrid Viola Carlson was born to a Swedish immigrant family in New York City. She loved to roller skate to the Bronx Zoo and was involved with the Salvation Army Church.

When she was older her family built a home in Ardsley, New York. After High School, where she participated in many sports, she went to Chattanooga Tennessee. There she studied nursing at Erlanger Barnes Nursing School, where she was president of her class and voted most athletic, and Tennessee Temple University to study Bible.

She met her husband Harry Kienitz, they were married at Tennessee Temple Chapel. Later with their daughter Erika, they followed God's call to Germany as missionaries. There she gave birth to twin girls, Doris and Linda.

When they felt the need for more education back to the States they went. When Harry started a new Christian School, Ingrid was the school nurse and taught health and PE. Moving to a new school in Brooksville she did the same and made the school yearbook.

As time progressed the family moved to Colorado eventually landing in Widefield. While Harry was Pastor, Ingrid used her Bible and art skills to make the Sunday School curriculum. This included designing and drawing the patches for a Bible quilt that every child made and got to bring home.

She had a great love for animals and was a docent at the Cheyenne Mountain Zoo where she designed their patch and painted artwork displayed at the zoo.

Later they moved to the mountains where they were Camp Directors. Ingrid worked in the kitchen planning and cooking meals for hundreds.

When retirement came, she switched to the role of Grandma full time, going to church events, school events and birthdays for her 11 grandchildren. Later two great-grandchildren were added and one more is on the way.

Ingrid and Harry recently celebrated their 60th Anniversary with many relatives and friends. She was a tough lady surviving a heart attack, strokes and breast cancer. Ingrid will be remembered for her love for God and her family. She was a daughter, a sister, a wife, a mother, a grandmother, a great grandmother and a friend. She is loved.

Ingrid is survived by her husband, Harry; children, Erika (Todd) Young, Doris (Michael) Welch and Linda (John) Stem; 11 grandchildren and two great-grandchildren; and siblings, Peter (Patricia) Carlson, Kenneth (Linda) Carlson and the late Raymond (Rosie) Carlson. Preceded in death by her parents Hjalmar Carlson and Olga Carlson.
