Irene Jeannette Jansen, of Denver, Colorado, died at the age of 94 on 12/4/2020. She is preceded in death by her beloved husband Donald Jansen, whom she missed every day and now rejoins in eternity.
Irene had a full and varied life as a homemaker for her family. She attended the University of Illinois and lived in Illinois, Missouri, and Kansas until she and Don found Colorado where they chose to stay for the rest of their lives. She had a wicked sense of humor and impeccable handwriting which the rest of the family did not seem to inherit as a skill. She loved old movies and could recognize most of the cast without looking at credits, but it really helped when IMDB came along, so that we could confirm that she was almost always right about the cast members. She loved meeting celebrities, sports figures, and politicians. The family has many photos commemorating these meetings. She enjoyed bridge, playing cards, tennis, golf and board games, often confounding the family by beating us soundly more often than not. She was an avid sports fan of the Denver Broncos, Rockies, and St. Louis Cardinal baseball teams.
She loved trivia, game shows, and knew most of the questions on Jeopardy while the family would marvel at how quickly and correctly she responded to the answers.
She showed her creativity with needlepoint, Christmas decorations and various crafts. As an avid traveler with Don, she visited all seven continents, and enjoyed, among many other trips, the winter Olympics in Japan in 1972, whale and penguin watching in Antarctica and an African safari.
As a volunteer at the Denver Public Library, she helped with some research for James Mitchener's book, Centennial. She also volunteered for the Girl and Boy Scouts.
The family, according to Irene's wishes, will celebrate her well-lived life privately with no public memorial. She is survived by her children, Carol Steinmeyer, Christina Jansen (Kathy), and Patti Jansen of Denver, Colorado; and Mark Jansen (Margaret) of Leawood, KS. She has joined her daughter Gail Weller, and her husband, Don in eternity.
Irene took great comfort and joy in seeing her extended family when they could visit including her niece, Barb Van Horne; her grandsons, Stephen Weller, Lee and Davis Neely, and her granddaughter, Joanne Montgomery. She adored her great granddaughters: Lolah and Maggie who gave her so much joy.
