Jack E. Matthews 69 of Aurora, CO (formally of Naperville and Plainfield IL) died suddenly on November 27, 2021 at home. Mr. Matthews was born May 26, 1952 in Masontown, PA to Janet Matthews and Donald Kenneth Matthews.
A memorial service will be held at Newcomer Funeral Home, Aurora CO at 2:00 PM on December 16, 2021. Another service will be held at Good Shepherd Lutheran Church in Naperville, IL at a later date.
He attended both Newton Falls High School and Champion High School in Ohio from which he graduated in 1970. He played football and sang in choir and school musicals. After graduation, Jack relocated to Naperville, IL in 1971 where began his career with Western Electric – Lucent Technologies, until he retired in 2001. He began his career working on the dock at the Lisle, IL facility and moved into materials management, project management and software deployment. He traveled all over the US and the world to implement software for Lucent, including Nuremburg Germany, Shanghai China, and Amsterdam Netherlands.
Jack is survived by his beloved wife, Lisa (Pappani) Matthews to whom he married January 15, 1988. Three children; Michael Barr of Menasha, WI; Hannah Matthews (Rob Simpson) of Joliet, IL and Lindsey Curry (Robert) of Highlands Ranch, CO. Four grandchildren; Abby Souser(Justin), Brayden Curry, Paige Simpson and Samantha Curry. He is also survived by his first wife Christine (Eisele) and five nieces and four nephews.
Jack was the beloved brother of Donald (Terry) Matthews, Darla (Leach) Lemmo, Sally (Leach) Easha.
Jack was preceded in death by Thomas Matthews.
Jack and Lisa retired in Aurora Co in November 2018 where he enjoyed playing golf, singing karaoke, spending time with his family and friends, and traveling. During his younger years he played park district and industrial league football, softball and baseball. He loved playing golf with his wife and in the men's league at Heather Gardens.
Jack was also a survivor of kidney and bladder cancer and had been embracing life after a clean bill of health by treating himself to a Dodge Charger and a knee replacement.
Jack had given his life to Jesus Christ as His Lord and Savior. He sang in church choir and praise bands over the years. The depth of his faith has increased over the years. He was known for his smile, kindness, and big heart. He was a source of strength for many and had a way of bringing wisdom without judgment.
