Jack O. Middleton, 93, of Westminster, CO, passed away on November 24, 2023, at his residence at Covenant Living retirement community. He was born to J. T. "Bill" Middleton and Rosa Beaird Middleton on September 7, 1930, in Lanett, AL. Jack received a B.S. in Textile Engineering from Auburn University in 1952, followed by two years in the U.S. Air Force, including in South Korea, and separating as a First Lieutenant. He earned an M.S. in Textile Technology in 1956 from the Institute of Textile Technology in Charlottesville, VA, were he met his bride, Miriam Fitchett, a registered nurse, originally from Toano, VA. Their family grew in the following years with the additions of a daughter, Robin, and a son, Scott.
Jack consistently demonstrated his commitment to his Christian faith by serving as a volunteer in numerous capacities in churches and Christian organizations. In 2003, Jack and Miriam moved to Westminster, CO, to be near family and became residents of Covenant Living. Designing and fabricating metal sculptures were hallmarks of Jack's retirement years, and his imaginative sculptures were shown in several Colorado galleries. With deep trust in God, he soldiered through the diagnosis and treatment of esophageal cancer in 2011. He was noted for his great sense of humor, unwavering integrity, and love of WWII history.
Jack is survived by his wife of 67 years, Miriam, of Westminster, daughter Robin, also of Westminster, son Scott (Kathy) of Littleton, CO, three grandchildren -- John Middleton of Lakewood, CO, David (Tara Corbett) Middleton of Durham, NC, and Hannah (Scott) Hines of Sherman Oaks, CA – one great-granddaughter, Reese Hines, and several nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, Jack was preceded in death by his sisters, Sue Newton of Lanett, AL, and Ann Goodwin of Birmingham, AL.
A memorial service to honor Jack will be held for family and friends at 10:00 a.m. on Monday, December 18, in the Smith Fellowship Hall at Covenant Living in Westminster.
