Jacob Gilmore "Pop"

Jacob (Jake) Gilmore, age 82, passed away on February 10, 2018 at home surrounded by his loving family. He was born on July 29, 1935 in Springfield, Ohio. Jake was the son of Eleanore Valentine and Kirk Wheeler. He grew up at the Springfield Clark County Children's Home and at the age of 12 he was adopted by Willard and Mattie Gilmore. Jake joined the U.S. Air Force at the age of 17 in 1952. During the mid-1950s he received orders to be stationed at Tachikawa, AFB in Japan. He met and married his wife Hatsue (Ishizuka) Gilmore "Sue" on June 11, 1956 in Tokyo, Japan. A year later, Jacob Gilmore Jr., was born. Jake Sr. and his family had orders to return state-side to the U.S. Air Force Academy, Colorado Springs, Colorado, where his second son Vincent Toshio was born. Shortly after the birth of his son, he received orders back to Japan where his third son Scott Masao was born and for a final time; he was ordered back to the U.S. and settled in Park Hill and later moved to Montbello - both communities in Denver, Colorado.

Jake's military tour of duty included; Japan (during the Korean War), Thailand and Vietnam. His assigned specialties included: Base Material and Supplies, Dignitary Escort for military personnel, and he worked at the Rocky Mountain Arsenal. He held various part time jobs over the years to make extra money for his family. Jake earned many accolades, awards and certificates during his military career for honorable service. He also was employed as a Bailiff for the U.S. Federal District Court serving under the Honorable Judge Richard P. Matsch. Jake returned to school attending Metropolitan State University and earned a B.S. degree in 1984. He was a member of the Kingsmen, and he was also a Mason.

His hobbies included fishing, traveling, watching Netflix and most of all, spending time with his family and friends. Everyone shares the same remembrance of an amazing and caring man who looked after anyone that came into his life and it was evident that he always treated people like his own family. He will be deeply missed.

He is preceded in death by his loving wife Sue Gilmore; parents; grandson, Toshio Lamont Gilmore; great grand-daughter, Jade Tacoa Gilmore, sisters; Mary Taft, Joann Crosswhite, Peggy Coleman, Betty Woodward, and Betty Burks.

He leaves to cherish his memory; his life partner D.J. Moore "Momma Dot"; his three sons, Jacob (Edweena) Gilmore Jr., Vincent Toshio (Ardith) Gilmore, Scott Masao (Stacie) Gilmore, his extended family son Mark (Mary) Moore and daughter Terrilynn; his sisters Carol (Robert) Clark, Anna Kenerly, and brother Gregory Gilmore; along with a host of grandchildren, great grandchildren, nieces, nephews, and numerous other relatives and friends.

A viewing is scheduled for Wednesday, February 21, 2018 from 5-8pm at Newcomer Funeral Home, 190 Potomac Street, Aurora, CO 80011. A funeral is scheduled for 11am on Thursday, February 22, 2018 at Restoration Christian Fellowship located at 15660 E. 6th Avenue, Aurora, 80011. He will be laid to rest at Fort Logan Cemetery with his loving wife Sue Gilmore with a repast to follow at Restoration Christian Fellowship. Pastor Felix Gilbert will officiate the ceremony in conjunction with Pastor Vernon Jones and Pastor James Fouther. All are welcome to attend and celebrate Jake's life.
