James Walter Johnson, 89, of Sedalia CO, died on Friday, February 23. He was born to the late Walter S. and Grace B. Johnson, Apr 7, 1934 in Roswell, NM. Jim graduated from Evergreen High School in 1952, served in the U.S. Army and attended Hardin-Simmons University in Abilene, TX. He received a BS in Psychology from the University of Colorado-Denver in 1968. He married the late Margaret (Peg) Stewart in 1956 and they lived in the Denver area from 1958 on. Following Peg's passing in 1999, Jim married Ann Bouray Kretz in 2000 and they lived in Sedalia until his passing.
Jim was an Engineering Operations manager for Martin Marietta from 1958 until his retirement in 1991. He greatly enjoyed his work, and maintained a great interest in the space program throughout his career.
Throughout his adult life, Jim enjoyed many hobbies and interests, including birdwatching, sculptural woodcarving and four-wheeling in the mountains of Colorado and deserts of Utah. He was a member of Grace Baptist Church in Denver, and later a member of West Alameda Baptist Church in Lakewood. While at West Alameda, Jim served on the board of directors for a new senior living community that was established near the church in 1980. Upon retirement, Jim and Peg traveled extensively through the U.S. and Canada in their motor home, and began spending each winter in Borrego Springs, CA where they formed a close community of dear friends. Jim and Ann continued this winter tradition in later years, and also traveled extensively, visiting family and friends throughout the U.S.
Jim is survived by his wife Ann, two sons: James S. Johnson and wife Shelly of Parker, CO, and Randall P. Johnson and spouse Doug of Denver; two daughters, Jeannie Singer and husband Brian of Ladera Ranch, CA and Lori Kornely of Naples, FL; and daughter-in-law Diane Johnson of Littleton, CO. He is also survived by 16 grandchildren and 20 great-grandchildren. He is preceded in death by wife Peg Johnson, son Steven W. Johnson, grandson Justin Johnson, his parents, sisters Doris Vineyard and Louise Holcomb, and brothers Harold Rich and David Johnson.

In lieu of viewing and services, a celebration of life gathering will be held on Sat. April 6th from 1:00 pm - 5:00 pm at Ann and Jim's home.
