James “Jim” Hugh Mileham passed away at his home on June 8, 2024.
Jim was born in Phoenix, Arizona to James “Herchell” Mileham and Dorothy Edith (Cross) on March 2, 1946 and grew up in Clay County, Iowa. After graduating from South Clay Community School in 1964, he married Karen Ruth Glover on April 2, 1966 and joined the Air Force in 1967. After being honorably discharged in 1974, he and Karen settled in Aurora, Colorado. Jim worked as an air traffic controller for the Federal Aviation Administration until retiring in 2001 and then worked part-time at the University of Colorado mail room before retiring again in 2010.
Jim is survived by his wife of 58 years, Karen and their daughters Brenda (Aurora, Colorado), Julie (Mike Mickelson, Aurora, Colorado) and grandchildren Charlotte and Tanner Meskimen (Aurora, Colorado), his brother Don (Lesleen, Fort Lauderdale, Florida), sisters Colleen (David Foster, Salem, Oregon), Patricia (Rick Marker, Maynard, Minnesota) Marlene (Yamhill, Oregon), and many nieces and nephews and their children.
Jim and Karen volunteered at Cherry Creek State Park and enjoyed getting outside almost every day, despite what the Colorado weather threw at them. He took great pride in his home and yard of lush green grass and beautiful flowers. He had a love of war airplanes and enjoyed putting models together and reading about planes and historical war stories. Together they followed the local professional sports teams, stayed up on current events, visited the casinos to gamble in the Colorado mountain towns and took road trips to visit family and friends around the country.
Jim will be cremated followed by a private interment.
