James R. Freitas, 75, of Aurora, passed away November 11, 2019.
He was born July 1, 1944 in the California Bay Area, the son of Warren and Marian (Jensen) Freitas.
James honorably served in the US Army in Germany during the Vietnam Era.
On March 12, 1967, he married Kathlene Cook.
James was a member of the American Legion Post 1. He was also a member the Aurora Gun Club. James also was a HAM radio operator, known as KA0KTE.
He was an avid reader, a history buff and a lifelong learner. He enjoyed astronomy. He would learn to build anything including his color TV and black powder rifles. He enjoyed tinkering with cars and built a '48 Ford hotrod in his garage. He also enjoyed taking rides on his motorcycle. He also loved his dogs.
James is survived by his loving wife of 52 years, Kathlene Freitas; two daughters, Danielle (James) Petrich and Erika (Lee) Sheets; four grandchildren, Lauren Quinton, Kathlene Quinton, Alexander Petrich and Nicholas Petrich; three brothers, Warren (Pamela) Freitas, William (Susan) Leiva and Daniel (Carol) Leiva; two sisters, Yohanna (Charlotte Swindal) Leiva and Janet Leiva-Johnson; sister-in-law, Virginia Freitas; many nieces, nephews, extended family and friends and his cherished dogs, Trinka and Paco.
He is preceded in death by father, Warren Freitas; mother, Marian Jane Leiva; son-in-law Curtis Quinton; brother, Wesley Freitas and brother-in-law, Paul Johnson.
