"JR", James Roy Bell was born March 17, 1935 in Anaheim, California and passed away September 27, 2007 of congestive heart failure, COPD and emphysema.
Jim was the sixth child of Irvin George and Lenora Smith Bell who preceded him in death. He is survived by his two brothers, Don Bell and Ralph Bell, who reside in California; his son, Kenneth Bell; his daughter, Donna Foster; his four grandchildren, Carisa, Derick, Brent and Ethan; and his two great-grandchildren, Mae'Lonna and Cody. Jim loved his mother-in-law, Eva Seib; his son-in-law, Dan Foster; his two granddaughter-in-laws, Terin and Leah and his grandson-in-law, Tim Webb.
Jim retired from the United States Army as an E7 SFC after 21 years of service to his country, which brought him pride and joy. He received many decorations and medals: The Army Commendation Medal, the Army Good Conduct Medal (Silver, and 1 loop), the National Defense Service Medal, the Army Services Ribbon, the Overseas Service Ribbon, the Vietnam Service Medal (1 Silver and 4 Bronze Service Stars), the Republic of Vietnam Campaign Medal, the Vietnamese Cross of Gallantry (Palm) and the Professional Development Ribbon. If Jim could, he would have stayed in the Army until he died.
He loved giving to his family. Jim passed his time by watching TV and movies and keeping his home cleaned. He loved sports, comedies, the news (which he loved to keep everyone in the know) and soap operas. Jim had a big sweet tooth. He loved to eat candy and cookies daily. It was his great pleasure to spoil his great-granddaughter, Mae'Lonna and his mom, Eva, and was quick to help out financially if they needed anything. He always kept a watchful eye on his mom's house, because she lived across the street from him.
Jim met Sandra Ann Seib Foxworth Ralston in Anaheim, California in 1964. They were married September 19, 1964, six weeks after their first meeting. He adopted her two childen, Kenneth and Donna, June 23, 1965. Jim and Sandra took legal guardianship of their grandson, Brent Bell on July 12, 1991 and cared for him until he became an adult. Sandra passed away May 7, 2002 and is waiting on him at Fort Logan National Cemetery.
Jim was stronger then his frail looking frame. His family believes he held on to life for so long, so that he could help them out as he saw fit.
"Death, I knew you would find me, you knocked on my door before. You didn't take me the first time, because my mission in life was not complete. Now that I've done your bidding Lord, you've taken me home. You took me quickly, so that I kept my dignity. My passing will be hard on my family, but they will survive. The legacy of my wife will go on in her great-grandchildren. May all who knew us, remember us for the good we did, not for our mistakes in life."
Memorial Service, Friday, October 5, 2007, 9:30A.M. at the Newcomer Family Funeral Home - West Metro Chapel, with Pastor Robert "Bob" Reynolds, officiating. Inurnment, Fort Logan National Cemetery, with Military Honors by the United States Army.
