James Richard Shaw, 77, of Denver, passed away March 2, 2021.
He was born June 4, 1943 in Texas, the son of Gene and Alberta (Parmes) Shaw.
He was a high school graduate and attended Prairie View A &M College majoring in Music and Air Traffic Control. He was an accomplished trumpeter.
After he finished college, he was drafted into the U.S. Army during the Vietnam War. Following his honorable discharge, he worked in Air Traffic Control. He then worked as a Boilermaker and later went to work for Public Service in Gas Emergency Response. He retired from Public Service (now XCel Energy) after a 25-year career.
On October 18, 1980, he married Roxanne Pierre.
James was an avid fisherman and spent as much time fishing with any friend that would go with him. He was a Jehovah's Witness, baptized in September 1983, went into field service on a regular basis, and remained one until his death. James also loved to barbecue, play chess, and go to the CU Buffaloes and Bulls games. He loved being outdoors.
James is survived by his wife of 40 years, Roxanne Shaw; children, Terence Shaw, Romael A. Shaw and Shirelle Y. Shaw; grandchildren, Jayden Shaw, Amaya Shaw and Talea Shaw; several nieces and nephews, many extended family members and a host of friends.
He is preceded in death by mother, Alberta L. Walton; father, Gene Edward Shaw and his brothers, Gene Edward Shaw, Jr. and Avord Shaw.
