James J. Veyera

James Joseph "Jim" Veyera, 76, of Brighton, CO, passed away on February 25th, 2022. He was born to the late George and Marjorie Veyera. Jim graduated from North Kingstown High School in 1963 and received a Bachelor of Science degree in 1981, from the Metropolitan State College of Denver, CO. He married Judith Smith-Ritter in 1990, and they lived together in Conifer, CO before relocating to Brighton in 2019.
Jim was a Computer Specialist working for the Bureau of Land Management (BLM) and retiring from Mineral Management Service (MMS) in Lakewood, CO, after 29 years of government service. Prior to this, he served in the Air Force for 4.5 years as a Supply Specialist. His service in the Air Force included overseas tours in Guam and Thailand, near the end of the Vietnam War. Jim loved the Colorado mountains and living amongst nature. He enjoyed ATVing and watching the sunrise from atop Conifer Mountain. After moving off Conifer Mountain, Jim enjoyed the sunsets over the Rocky Mountains. Jim loved the field of aviation, visiting many aircraft museums throughout the US. He was also an avid reader and was considered the family's living encyclopedia.
Jim is survived by his wife of 31 years, Judith Veyera. He is also survived by two step-children: Ray Ritter, of Iliff, CO and Lori Smailes of Niceville, FL as well as several grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Jim is also survived by his brother George Veyera as well as nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his parents George and Marjorie Veyera, sister Marjorie "Midge" Howard and brother William "Bill" Veyera.
In lieu of flowers, the family is requesting that donations be made to Semper Fi and America's Fund for combat wounded, ill, and injured. Donations can be made to the Semper Fi and America's Fund
A military burial service will be held at Fort Logan National Cemetery in Denver, CO, Friday, April 1, 2022 from 10:00 -10:20 AM. A celebration of life gathering will follow the service. Details of the gathering will be provided by the family.
