James Lee Winget

September 4, 1953 — July 24, 2021

James Lee Winget, age 67, of Denver, Colorado passed away quietly in his sleep July 24, 2021. Jim was born on September 4, 1953 in Bartlesville, Oklahoma to parents Preston and Elva Lee. He shared his birthday with his twin sister Jayne who arrived a few minutes before Jim. Both of them were welcomed to the family by their older brother Walter and the family was complete.

Jim had a quick wit and his greatest joy came from making people laugh. His other great loves included telling tales, sometimes tall, of his life experiences growing up in Oklahoma. Mischief on the Caney river, noodling catfish, catching a campfire glimpse of Big Foot, racing cars and making trouble. He was an avid lover of music. He could name the artist and title, explain what the song was about, when and why it was written and could be counted on to always find the right music for any occasion. Growing up Jim was a natural athlete and there was no ball he could not pick up and play. He loved football, baseball and softball. He could hold his own with a basketball and was the luckiest golfer you would ever meet. Sometimes he might have to bank the ball off a utility shed to get it to the green but somehow he always pieced together a good game and an impressive score on the links. His love of sports led him to be an avid spectator of professional and college football, basketball, baseball and golf. He knew the rules of the games and was a true fan. Later in life he loved a game of pool with friends and considered himself a real shark on the pool table. Of course, Jim also had a generous love for family, his children and all of the menagerie of pets that came into his life.

Jim is survived by his current wife of 32 years Liz; his children Crystal, Cory (wife Maranda), Shelby (husband Ryan) Samuel, William and Joseph and his grandchildren Mary, Abigayle, Kara and a brand new addition to the family, baby Walter. He is also survived by his twin sister Jayne.
Jim has rejoined his most loved brother Walter, his parents and his previous wife Carla.

We will miss the laughs, we will retell the stories and we will love and remember him always.
