Janet Robinson Walker

September 20, 1922 — June 15, 2021

Battle Mountain belies its name - it is not a place of battle but a place of beauty. To this beauty, Janet "Jane" Adeline Robinson was born September 20, 1922 in the little town of Gilman, perched at it's top. Her father, Harold Robinson, was the health and safety manager for the Empire Zinc Mine. Her mother, Elizabeth Robinson, started the first Girl Scout troop there. Her brothers, Fred Robinson, six years older and Frank Robinson, two years older predeceased her. Their early lives were idyllic with camping, fishing and exploring. In 1932 she helped her father build the family cabin up Homestake Valley. The Cabin remains a family treasure to this day offering a refuge from our hectic lives and memories of days past.

After four years of college at the University of Colorado, she joined the Waves as her contribution to the war effort. Having a degree in medical technology, she worked in the Navy as a medical technician in San Diego until her discharge in 1945.

She became Janet Robinson Walker on September 26th, 1945 with her marriage to Robert Tunstall Walker, Jr. After they were discharged from Service, they returned to Leadville to marry in the family home. Shortly thereafter Rob got a job as a chemical engineer and they moved to Cranford, New Jersey. Time passed… their first born, Susan Jane, came into the world in October 1946. Their second born, Barbara Elizabeth, followed a couple of years later in October 1948. Their third beautiful daughter, Patricia Lynn, was born, also in New Jersey, in February 1952 followed by Sharon Tunstall in March, 1955.

At that point, the Walker's chose to move back to their roots in Colorado. After spending six months with Jane's parents in Buena Vista, Rob bought his first private business, Service Supply Company - a chemical company - and their home in a new subdivision of Harvey Park in southwest Denver. They were joined there by their fifth daughter, Robynn Jean, in October, 1957. They were longtime members of the Brentwood Methodist Church and later chose to attend Grace Point Community Church with their adult daughters Patty and Robynn. Jane was always seeking ways to serve her church and her community. She served as a Girl Scout Leader for many years and had attained their highest honor as well as helping her daughters to become First Class Scouts. She loved her pets, particularly her dogs and found great joy with their companionship.

Life progressed, as it does. In watching their movies, it is apparent their lives were filled with family and adventure. They added another business venture, Brand-It Decal Company, and always ran their businesses as a team. As their daughters went on to college or business, and the nest became empty, they bought a travel trailer which became their joy for many years. They toured the United States including a 10,000-mile trip to Alaska in 1983. Finally, they expanded their travels to include Europe, The Holy Lands, two cruise ship tours and three trips to New Zealand.

No adventure was more satisfying, however, than watching their family grow and marveling in the miracle of sixteen grandchildren. With one daughter and grandchildren in New Zealand, another daughter with grandchildren in Texas and three daughters with grandchildren close to home, they were always surrounded by the love of family. That love lives on in their 26 great-grandchildren with two more due in August. Mom did want to live to hold the twins but we know she'll be watching that NEW adventure with Dad.

After 66 years of marriage, Rob went to be with the Lord before her in May of 2014. She moved to Windcrest Retirement Community the fall of 2014 and in the fall of 2019 was welcomed into the home of her daughter, Robynn and son-in-law, Lowell Thomas in Littleton, Colorado.

Janet passed away with her daughters and eldest grandchild at her side She was 98.

She will be interred next to Rob at Fort Logan National Cemetery on July 8th with full military honors. Family and friends will hold a Celebration of Life Service at Grace Point Community Church, near her 99th birthday, September 25th, 2021, followed by a luncheon reception at Roxborough Community Center.

While we will miss her gentle spirit and delightful laugh, we know she is with Jesus and in a better place. She was a wonderful Mom, grandma and great-grandma, daughter, sister, wife, neighbor and friend. She was deeply loved and admired by all who met her.
