Janice Lilli Campbell (70) of Littleton, Colorado, passed away peacefully on July 9th, 2024, accompanied by her three sons and closest family.
Jan was born in Tulsa, Oklahoma, in May of 1954 to Raymond Abdo and Marilyn Ratliff. After a few formative years in the Midwest, she moved to the Mile High State where she would spend the rest of her life spending time with her family and friends, going to school, getting married, raising her three boys, and providing a “home away from home” to hundreds of kids that were fortunate enough to call her “Jannie” while growing up in her daycare.
It takes a very special kind of person to open their home and heart to children of all ages for over 27 years, and Jan had a heart that was bigger than life itself. Growing up around Westminster, she graduated from Iver C. Ranum High School in 1972 and got married to Douglas Alan Campbell, her high school sweetheart and forever companion. 52 years later, they were still madly in love and absolute soul mates.
In the Fall of 1972, Jan and Doug moved to Colorado Springs when Doug joined the United States Air Force and Jan went to work at King Soopers as an assistant manager. After Doug’s honorable discharge in 1975, they moved to Denver and explored the United States via their numerous muscle cars. Eventually settling in Littleton in 1988, Jan opened her daycare the same year and raised her 3 boys alongside generations of younguns and touched hundreds of lives through her glowing personality, welcoming arms, and beaming smile.
Jan truly loved the meaningful things in life: Starbucks dates with her “honey”, Black Friday shopping extravaganzas with “the girls”, cooking up tasty recipes, macabre horror flicks, and her Australian Shepherds. She adored the holidays and made every single one memorable for her family and friends, going all-out in decorating the house and giving thoughtful gifts. Christmas was such a special season at Doug and Jan’s house that anyone who had experienced it for themselves still believes in holiday magic.
Jan was as kind and compassionate as they come. We miss her profoundly but find comfort in knowing that she is finally free of her mortal shell and reunited with her “Dougie” after just 43 days of his own passing. We love you forever and always, Mom.
