Jarvis Eliza Parks Grantham was born September 22, 1933 in Goldsboro, NC to Washington and Lillie Belle Parks both of whom preceded her in death. She was the second of ten children and was preceded in death by her brothers Ennis, Donald, Washington Jr., John and sisters Magdalene Parks , Shirley Lutz, and Bernistine Holloman.
Jarvis graduated from Dillard High School, Goldsboro NC, in 1951. Shortly after graduation, she married Curtis Harrell Grantham Sr. and this marriage lasted from 1951 to 1977. To this union was born Deborah Grantham Johnston of Aurora, CO, Curtis Harrell Grantham Jr. (Samara) of Aurora, CO and Daryl Lamont Grantham (Judy) of Houston, TX. During their marriage as a military family Jarvis lived in El Paso, TX, Oklahoma City, OK, Winslow, AZ, Goldsboro, NC, Roswell, NM, Belleville, IL, Madison, WI, Berlin Germany, and Denver CO. On August 22, 1972, Jarvis was presented a Certificate of Appreciation from the United States Air Force for being an honorable serving, military wife.
She was a loving, dutiful wife and mother who prided herself in providing a warm, meticulous home. In that home, her children were raised in an environment of love, where respect for your neighbor and the importance of education was ingrained. Her granddaughters and nieces can tell their own stories of her belief that a lady should always be a lady and carry her “pocket book”. Even her great grandchildren knew that when Grand Ma spoke, you better listen or have a little talk with “the old wooden spoon”. Although she had a quiet and unassuming personality, the kids on the block thought of her as another mother. She loved to take personal time to manicure her nails and especially enjoyed doing nails with her special little neighbor Kelli.
She had a loving heart and would open her home to help anyone. Many friends, co-workers and family members were lent a helping hand in their times of need. What she cherished the most was the times that her nieces Rhonda, Sharon and Veronica lived with her.
During her life in Denver, she would become employed by Vie De France bakery where she retired after 30 years. Her favorite hobbies were crocheting, jigsaw puzzles, playing scrabble, solitaire and bowling. She began bowling in Berlin Germany in 1967 and continued until the 2020 COVID pandemic. Her bowling team would travel and win trophies throughout the state of Colorado. She was also an avid Bronco fan who loved John Elway like he was one of her children. However, the thing that she took the most pride in was landscaping her yard. It was always beautiful and she received complements from her neighbors and those who passed by. Her specialties were the circular flower gardens and the immaculate shrubs.
On Tuesday, December 31, 2024, Jarvis departed this earth and leaves to cherish her memory two loving sisters Alberta Brock of Oklahoma City, OK and Joesphine Bryant (Raymond) of Goldsboro, NC, her children Deborah, Curtis Jr. (Samara) , Daryl (Judy), her grandchildren twins Gregory and Antony Bryant, Laqueta McCauley, Curtis Grantham III, Anjanette Grantham, Alexis Grantham, sixteen great grandchildren, six great-great grandchildren, a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and loving, devoted friends.
