Jay John Padilla, a devoted servant to his community, passed away on January 18, 2025, at Denver Health Hospital, surrounded by the cherished company of family and friends. Born on June 24, 1950, in the vibrant city of Denver, Colorado, Jay was a beacon of kindness and generosity, whose spirit will forever resonate in the hearts of those who knew him.
A proud graduate of North High School, Jay embarked on a notable career characterized by his unwavering commitment to helping others. He dedicated many years to volunteering at the local food bank, where he found profound joy in serving those in need. Rising to the esteemed position of advanced mail processor for the Rocky Mountain News, he channeled his talents into uplifting the voices of the community, always believing in the power of stories to effect change.
Jay was as multifaceted as he was charming, embodying a personality that was caring, kind, loving, and outgoing. His humor, sometimes lightheartedly considered annoying, brought laughter and warmth to those fortunate enough to be in his presence. An avid crocheter, he also found solace in swimming and cleaning, pursuits that reflected his need for both creativity and order.
Above all, Jay prioritized the well-being of others, a testament to his selflessness. His proudest accomplishments were rooted in his faith and dedication to God; a devout Catholic, he exemplified love in action throughout his life. He demonstrated that no act of kindness is too small and that his love for God was always intertwined with his love for people.
Jay leaves behind a legacy of compassion and devotion, cherished by his surviving family members, including his esteemed Aunt Terry Jortenberry; Nina Mary Martinez; nephews Tim, Lorne, Chris, William, Michael, Aaron, Cameron, Louie, Bobby and Brandon; nieces Dana, Aspen, Maxine, Rebecca, Vera and Jamie; goddaughter Crystal; His beloved dog Lucky, a constant companion, will also miss his warm presence.
He was preceded in death by his parents William and Flora Padilla, his sister Rose Aguilar, his brother Billy Padilla, and his godson Jeremy Thalley, as well as his cherished dog Tootsie. Each of these individuals held a special place in Jay’s heart, and their memories continue to inspire those he leaves behind.
A true pillar of kindness and laughter, Jay John Padilla lived a life rich in love and service. His legacy is woven into the fabric of his community, and his spirit shall live on in the hearts of those who were touched by his unwavering compassion and joy.
