Jean R. Bishop, of Littleton, Colorado, passed away June 3, 2023, after a brief illness.
Jean was born September 14, 1935, in North Elham, England, the daughter of Reginald and Winifred (Nelson) Lakey. Her father was the local baker and the family lived above the bakery in their small village.
Jean was working at a local manufacturing factory in bookkeeping when she met her husband, Rayford O. Bishop, in England, while he was stationed there during his twenty-year career in the United States Air Force. Jean and Ray were married in England on June 16, 1956.
After relocating to the United States, Jean and Ray welcomed two children into their family, Kevin and Tracy. She was a homemaker and had been a volunteer for Meals On Wheels. Jean loved her home, enjoying afternoon coffee with Ray on their back porch. Jean loved working in her garden at home and she spent many happy hours in that endeavor. Jean and Ray were avid Square Dancers, beginning the hobby in England, from 1964 to 1967. They took it up in Amarillo, Texas in 1967 while they were residing there. Jean and Ray continued with their love of Square Dancing in Colorado from 1971 to 1972.
Jean and Ray were married for 67 years. Ray, Kevin and Tracy will miss Jean very, very much.
Jean is survived by her husband Rayford O. "Ray" Bishop, her son, Kevin Bishop and her daughter, Tracy Bishop.
There will be a visitation at Newcomer West Metro Chapel, on Wednesday, June 21 from 9:30 am to 10:00 am, followed by Shelter Service at Fort Logan National Cemetery, Shelter B, on Wednesday, June 21 at 10:30 am. Please meet at Staging Area B by 10:15 am.
