Jean C. Mckim

October 8, 1928 — October 29, 2019

Jean C. McKim, age 91, went home to her Lord, October 29th, 2019.

Jean was born Jean Marie Carlson on October 8, 1928 to S. Rodger Carlson and Esther Carlson (Swenson) on the family farm outside of McCook, Nebraska. She was baptized and raised in the Missouri Lutheran faith at Peace Lutheran in McCook. During high school, her family moved into town from the farm. She graduated from McCook High School in 1945. Her senior quote was, "Short and Sweet, Prim and Neat". Upon graduation she went to work for the telephone company in McCook, a career she held until after marriage.

Jean married Lowell C. McKim Jr. on February 13, 1955 at Peace Lutheran in McCook. They moved to Denver Colorado and had three children, Jay D., Joann Marie and Janet Nadine. Lowell worked outside the home and Jean was a homemaker. She was an active member of Trinity Lutheran and Lutheran Women's Missionary League. For many years she made the baptismal banners for the children of Trinity. Jean was a member of the Adoptive Mother's Club, a group she continued to meet with until her death. She enjoyed bowling and belonged to a bowling league while her children were small, and was proud to have bowled a perfect score! When her children were older she became active in their school's PTA. She was the first to sign the visitor's book for the new junior high school her kids attended. It was from PTA that she and dad met a close group of friends who met monthly for their supper club for over 30 years. Those were some lively evenings!

Jean was the grandmother to eight and took great joy in her grandchildren, babysitting for them when they were tiny. She made sure to attend her grandchildren's school events as often as she could. She continued to be an active part of her grandchildren's lives and in the lives of her great grandchildren. Jean's greatest sadness was that in the last six months of her life she lost her vision and couldn't look on the faces of her grandchildren and especially her great grandchildren.

Jean joins her husband, parents and brothers Paul and John in heaven. She is survived by her sister Ruth and brother Earl, her children Jay (Pam), Joann (Bradley), Janet (Kurt), her grandchildren, Brandon, Amber (CJ), Sam (Jen), William (Meghan), Jessica (Alex), Jacob, Lauren, Meagan, her great grandchildren, Gabriel, Benjamin, Nathaniel, Caleb, Alice and Warren.

"His master replied, "Well done, good and faithful servant! You have been faithful with a few things; I will put you in charge of many things. Come and share your master's happiness!"
Matthew 25:21 NIV.
