Jerome Wayne Walker was born on Friday, October 12, 1951, in Opelousas, Louisiana. He was the youngest of six children born to Amos Walker and Izola (Felix) Walker. He had a close relationship with his siblings, Leonard, Elsie, Joanna, Dora, and Billy. Jerome was educated in the Opelousas Public School System. He relocated to Denver, Colorado following his sisters, and quickly became a pillar of strength for his loved ones. In 1977, Jerome Walker and Lois Hymes welcomed a son Jerome, also known as Little Jerome.
Jerome had a passion for playing dominos and cards, listening to the blues, and watching cowboy movies. He was an avid reader and had a deep love for literature. Those who knew him best described him as being "real," never afraid to speak his mind or offer guidance to those in need. Jerome was a mentor to many, always willing to lend a listening ear and provide sound advice. He had many scars that were a roadmap of the ups and downs he lived during his lifetime. He was not perfect, but he was always willing to speak with or counsel anyone to help prevent them from traveling down a negative path.
Throughout his life, Jerome worked as a sanitation engineer for various companies in Colorado. Most recently Jerome worked at the Second Chance Center. His dedication to helping others re-enter society after incarceration was a testament to his compassionate nature and desire to support those in need.
On April 7, 2024, Jerome peacefully transitioned to eternal rest. He is proceeded in death, by his parents, Amos and Izola Walker; his brothers, Leonard and Billy Walker; and his sisters, Elsie Guillory, Joann Williams and Dora Walker. He is survived by his son, Jerome (Dondrea Archuleta) Jones of Denver, CO; grandchildren, Amelia, Jerome Jr., Honesty and Jernie Jones, all of Aurora, CO; and a multitude of friends who will forever cherish his memory. Jerome will be deeply missed but will live on in the hearts of all who knew him.
