Jewel Robert Myers, 89, passed away on Sunday, January 25, 2009, at his home in Lakewood, Colorado. Born in Stoutland, Missouri on December 17, 1919, he lived in Missouri until joining the Army in 1942. He was stationed in Denver at Lowry Field, when he met Dorothy Katherine Higdon, whom he married in December, 1942. They celebrated their 66th anniversary in December, 2008.
Following his return home at the end of WWII in 1946, he and his wife lived in Denver where Jewel was a carpenter and taught Auto Body and Fender at Midwest Trade School. He later started his own construction company and with his son Jim, built many custom homes in the Denver area. Jewel also was a cabinetmaker and built fine furniture.
He was a phenomenal craftsman and created many beautiful items including violins and toys for his grandchildren. Designing, building, and flying remote controlled model airplanes was another hobby of his. As a young man during the depression he drove Model A and Model T Fords across the country. This began a lifelong love of these beautiful old cars. During his retirement, he restored a large number of them and if he couldn't find the part he needed, he just made it.
He is survived by his wife, Dorothy, and their three children, Dottie (Richard) Lirette of Colorado Springs, Jim (Patricia) Myers of Spokane, Washington, and Deanna Myers of Thornton, Colorado. He leaves grandchildren Michael (Laura) Lirette, Albuquerque, NM Anne Lirette, Corona, CA, James Myers and Jason Myers, Spokane, WA, Jeremy Myers, Billings, MT, Erin Hickey, Lakewood, and Sara Hickey, Las Vegas, Nevada. One sister, Geneva Carter, of Branson, MO also survives, along with many nieces and nephews.
In lieu of flowers, contributions to Hospice of St. John 1320 Everett Ct. Lakewood. CO. 80215. Reception to follow burial at Ft. Logan National Cemetery.
