Joan Carol Brouillet of Lakewood, Colorado, died on January 30th, aged 77. She was the oldest daughter of Leona Knight. Joan was a Minnesota farm girl, born in Rochester, Minnesota, on April 25th, 1940.
Joan became a Christian at age 12 while attending a bible camp. The rest of her life she served her Lord.
She graduated from Rochester High School in 1958, and shortly afterwards moved to Colorado. She worked as a long distance operator, a secretary, and a stenographer. She started working at Martin Marietta in the early 1960's where she caught the eye of engineer David L. Brouillet. She and Dave married on July 27th, 1963.
Their son, Jon, was born in late 1964 and their daughter, Suzanne (nicknamed Suzy), followed two years later in the spring of 1967.
They found a church home at Southwest Bible Chapel in Lakewood in 1972 and have been faithfully serving the Lord there for over 45 years.
Joan chose to stay at home and raise her children, while pursuing interests such as tole painting, gardening, cooking, canning, and decorating. She became a master of each one. She loved camping with her family. She explored the Colorado mountains thoroughly, and visited most of the United States and Canada.
Later in life, she volunteered at Set Free Prison Ministries, based in their church, and visited inmates at the Jefferson County jail to tell them the Good News of salvation.
Joan is survived by her husband, Dave, her sister, Sharon Decker, and step-brothers Rodney and Raymond Clement, as well as her son, Jon Brouillet and daughter, Suzanne Cassidy. She had seven grandchildren: Rebekah Cassidy, Melissa Meraz, Carolyn Cassidy, Rose Aden, Timothy Cassidy, Abbie Brouillet, and Noah Cassidy. Her great-grandchilden were Ella Meraz, James Meraz, Edmund Aden, and Sophie Meraz.
Services will be on Thursday, February 8th at 1 pm at Southwest Bible Chapel, 5260 W. Florida Ave., Lakewood, followed by burial in Crown Hill Cemetery.
