Joan Louise Moxon, 66, died Saturday, December 23 after a brief but valiant battle against Lymphoma. She was the youngest daughter of the late Howard Kirby Keys and Elinor Morrison Keys. Joan was born March 14, 1951 in Champaign, Illinois and grew up on the family farm in Beason, Illinois. She graduated from Beason High school and received a BA in Art Education from Illinois State University.
Joan was a passionate, delightful and dedicated Art Teacher in the public school system in Illinois and at Front Range Christian School in Littleton, Colorado for many years and was known for her creativity in leading the Annual Front Range Christian Elementary Art Show each year in the children's section of the Jefferson County Public Library in Columbine. Joan delighted in opening the eyes of young people to the creative arts and would simply say, "Children's art is delightful. I am teaching because I am called to teach." Joan was also a gifted and talented artist in all media; oil, water color, ceramics and stained glass. During her life she was awarded multiple awards in juried art shows and completed a number of commissioned pieces for various organizations and individuals.
In addition to her creative visual art, Joan was also an accomplished musician, playing Piano, Keyboard, Guitar, Mandolin, Banjo and Flute as well as a singer and songwriter.
Joan was an amazing woman of God who touched so many lives for Jesus in so many ways. She was passionate and vocal about her faith, and was known as a faithful and valiant "prayer warrior" for any needs brought to her. The struggles she endured throughout her own life gave her a special humility and empathy with others. She is now free of the trials of this earthly world and is at peace in her true home and joins those who have gone before her.
Joan was married to James R. Moxon, on February 14, 1987, and they resided together in Littleton, CO. Joan is survived by her husband James Moxon, of the home and children Tara Moxon of Littleton and Justin (Jessica) Moxon of Denver. She is also survived by "the apple of her eye" 5 year old granddaughter, Addison Moxon, with whom she had a special bond.
Additionally she is survived by her mother, Elinor Keys, and sisters Mary Johnson of Chula Vista, California and Rebecca (Robert) Blake of Mt. Airy, North Carolina.
Also left to cherish her memory are numerous in-laws nieces, nephews, and cousins.
A Celebration of Life service will be held Jan. 11th at 10:00 AM at The Rock Community Church, 12472 W Belleview Ave, Littleton, CO. Opportunity will be given during the service for those who want to share their experiences with Joan. There will be a luncheon following the service.
