Joanne Marie Lohr-Mattingly, 74, of Aurora, passed from this life at home with her family March 6, 2018.
She was born in Kansas City, Kansas to Dorothy and Leo Lohr on May 9, 1943. Joanne attended St. Peter's Cathedral Elementary and graduated from Bishop Ward High School - 1961. She attended Donnelly College, Kansas City, Kansas, Saint Mary's College, Leavenworth, Kansas and Providence Hospital School of Nursing, graduating in 1964. She married Louis Wayne Mattingly on April 16, 1966, and they relocated to Colorado.
In the following years, Joanne worked primarily as a psychiatric nurse and case manager with the Aurora Mental Health Center. She also worked as a case manager at CFMC and finished her career with Health Dialog. Joanne's life was about service to others. She volunteered as a support group leader with the ALS Association, volunteered for the Women's Homeless Initiative, providing comfort and meals to women facing homelessness, while encouraging her entire family to become involved.
Additionally, Joanne was a tireless champion of women's rights, the peace movement, and issues of social justice.
Joanne loved hiking with her husband and other outdoor enthusiasts, some from her days as a student at Bishop Ward High School. After her diagnosis, Joanne and Lou joined their local ALS support group and drew strength from other families dealing with the disease.
Joanne is survived by her children and their spouses, Shannon Kennedy, Michael Mattingly (Kelly Mattingly), and Ryan Mattingly (Emily Jackson); eight grandchildren, Andrew; Jack (Kaylee), Lily, Sophia and Anna; and Dylan, Elody, and Sparrow; one great granddaughter, Audrey; sisters Peggy Hugo and Mary McDonald (Steve) and brother Leo (Skip) Lohr (Margaret), as well as many nieces, nephews, cousins and extended family members. She is preceded in death by her parents, and sisters Sharon Barr (Ed) and Patricia Peterson (Randy).
