Joe Poland

Joe Poland was born July 16, 1929, the third of four sons of Joe and Ruth Poland. Raised on a farm in Cunningham and Kingman Kansas, he was baptized into Christ at age 12 in a local pond. After his father passed away at age 9, he and his brothers helped their mom tend to the farm but was still able to attend Pratt High School where he met and married his high school sweetheart, Meda McKown. Joe and Meda were married on Febuary 25th 1950, and were together for 65 years until she passed April 11, 2015. Joe attended and received an associates degree from Pratt Junior College. He then worked for Standard Oil for a few years and started a 32 year career with Montgomery Ward in 1958. Joe and Meda (and family), moved to the Denver area in 1965 and settled in Lakewood Colorado where they raised their three children. Joe and Meda were faithful members of the Lakewood Church of Christ for over 35 years. Joe enjoyed fishing and golf well into his eighties. He took up downhill skiing when he was 50 and skied until his first knee replacement in his mid 60s. Joe and Meda enjoyed camping every year with their family and enjoyed traveling with their best friends, Al & Jean Schroder, and Bob & Pat Schumacher, and taking cruises with his older brother and wife Allen & Joy Poland.

Joe is survived by his younger brother Jim (and Elaine) Poland, son Phil (and Barbara) Poland, daughter Debra (and Neil) Noack, son Steve Poland, 10 grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren.

Joe was one of the most positive, happy and fun persons you would have ever known and was a very dedicated husband, father, grandfather and friend. His presence will be greatly missed.

A memorial service will be held at The Lakewood Church Of Christ on January 4th 2023, at 11am.
