Joe Roe

August 24, 1942 — May 14, 2021

Joseph Wendell Roe was born to Joseph Roe and Noble Garrett on August 24th, 1942 in Ada, Oklahoma. He graduated from Blackshear High School, in Odessa, Texas, in 1959 and went on to play basketball at Texas Southern University in Houston, Texas. On January 11th, 1967, Joe enlisted in the United States Air Force as a Weapons Mechanic and was stationed in London, England. After being promoted to the rank of Sergeant, Joe deployed to Thailand with the 21st Special Operations Squadron on Nakhon Phanom Royal Thai Air Force Base from 29 January 1969 to 29 January 1970. His medals and decorations include the National Defense Service Medal, the Small Arms Expert Marksmanship Medal, the Vietnam Service Medal and the Republic of Vietnam Campaign Medal.

After returning from Vietnam, Joe lived in Washington and California before relocating to Denver, Colorado. On May 25th, 1973, he was blessed by the birth of his one and only child, Anita Rochelle Roe. Rochelle was the apple of Joe's eye and was the reason he worked so hard during his 20 year career with Allstate Insurance Company. When he wasn't working, Joe enjoyed playing basketball, tennis and was a fierce ping pong competitor and champion. He also enjoyed playing cards and spent many days (and nights) at the casinos in Blackhawk, Colorado playing his favorite slot machines.

As much as Joe loved to have fun, he also loved the Lord and attended church services at Rising Star Missionary Baptist Church and The Potter's House throughout the years. Joe Roe was a loving, caring, generous and kind man who loved life and lived it to the fullest. On May 14th, 2021 at 8:25 am, the Lord called him home and gave him his wings.

Joe is survived by his sister JoAnne Roe, nieces Noelle Wendy Roe, Sarah Roe, April Roe and Hannah Roe, nephews Joseph John Roe and Joel Wesley Roe, great-nieces, Chase Cope, Caden Cope, and Zoey Roe, great-nephew, CJ Cope Jr, step-daughter Tanita Roe, and a plethora of very close friends and associates. He is preceded in death by his parents Joseph W. Roe and Noble Dean, his beloved daughter Anita Rochelle Roe, his brothers William O. Roe and Emmett B. Roe, MD, and his niece Megan Roe.
