John William Cartwright, age 81, passed away peacefully on December 28, 2021. He was born on March 2, 1940, in San Francisco, California. John joined the United States Military in 1957 and served in the Army for four years. In 1962 he moved to Omaha, Nebraska where he started his career with the railroads, taking a job with Burlington Northern. He transferred to Denver in 1992 accepting the position of Conductor for Amtrak. John retired in 2002 after completing 40 years of service with the railroads. After retiring, his passion for baseball kept him busy and close to his favorite team. He was employed by the Colorado Rockies for thirteen years and worked 70 home games every year, missing only one in his entire career to attend his father-in-law's funeral.

John had many hobbies and interests. As a card-carrying member of the NRA, he was an avid gun enthusiast. He was a car enthusiast as well. He enjoyed golf, bowling, camping, fishing, watching sports and old westerns on T.V. and was always in the middle of a good book or novel. He loved animals and had many collections, but John was happiest when spending time with his Maltese, Molly; his rescue Yorkshire Terriers, Max and Maggie and the love of his life and wife of 30 years, Margaret "Flo".

John was preceded in death by his parents John Andrew and Ella Mae Cartwright, brother Thomas, sister Doral and his two sons Joseph and John, Jr.; his father and mother-in-law, Charlie and Ercie Martinez and his sister-in-law Judy Martinez; and two beloved friends, Mike Wolf and Pete Wenger.

He is survived by his wife Margaret Florence "Flo" Cartwright, four children, seven grandchildren, 14 great-grandchildren; one brother and sister-in-law Michael and Mabel Cartwright; brother-in-law Art Martinez and brother and sister-in-law, Ralph and Thelma Acierno; many cousins, nieces, nephews and close friends.

John was loved and admired by all who knew him and will be missed.
