John Wayne Collins, age 84, of Aurora, was called home on Thursday July 11, 2019.
He was born to Vernie and Florence Collins, September 17, 1934, in Strong City Kansas. John attended Bend High School and in 1952 enlisted in the Navy where he saw combat in the Korean War.
John enlisted in the Air Force in 1954 and married his bride, Jessie Collins, in 1960. He was a veteran of the Vietnam war and served honorably for 23 years.
John and Jessie lived several places in John's time in the military until settling in Layton Utah in his retirement. They subsequently relocated to Aurora.
John worked in federal civil service until retiring in 2001. John was a man who led with integrity, spoke with honesty, loved his family wholeheartedly and would often punctuate his conversations with a joke and with laughter.
John was an avid gardener in his retirement and could be seen for many years moving rocks heavier then he should carry, feeding the neighborhood squirrels, assortment of birds and various animals that wandered into his yard and tending his garden with joy and care.
John is survived by his wife Jessie and their four children: Jerry Collins, of Artesia ; Jackie Collins, of Aurora; Mark Collins, of Bellflower; and Jimmie Collins, of Oahu. He is also survived by ten grandchildren and eight great grandchildren and his sister Betty Ann Rink. He is preceded in death by his parents Vernie and Florence Collins and brother Ron Collins.
In lieu of flowers, the family is requesting that donations be made to the St. Joseph's Indian School, PO Box 300
