John Wesley Croy was born to Comadore Green Croy and Emma Latitia Croy on July 14, 1926, at Bucklin, Missouri. He was the eighth child and the fifth son to be born into this family. When he was a teenager his parents moved to a farm close to St. Catherine, Missouri, where he attended school and helped his father on the farm. World War II took him from the farm at age eighteen in 1944 and he served in the Army in the Military Police, guarding prisoners of war in Germany. After the War ended in Germany he was to go to Japan, but the war ended there before he was sent. It was said of him that HE ended the war in Germany and when the Japanese heard he was coming, THEY GAVE UP!! He was honorably discharged from the Army in March, 1946, and immediately went to California to marry Betty Arlene Cooper, to whom he was engaged before going to the war. That was the beginning of a 73-year marriage, a family of 4 children, 13 grandchildren, 32 great-grandchildren, as well as, 6 step-great-grandchildren, and 2 great-great-grandchildren.
Soon after his marriage he attended a trade school and graduated with honors as a sheet metal mechanic; thus began a career in the HVAC world, excelling in sheet metal triangulation and fittings as well as installations of heating and air-conditioning systems. He was known in Denver as one of 5 brothers, who were "Croy Brothers Heating & Air-Conditioning Company." He was the youngest brother and all the others have preceded him in death.
John gave his heart to the Lord in 1976 and began to serve him in Song Evangelism with his wife in 1977. Betty was pianist and John was song leader and they sang duets together, serving in camp meetings and revivals for 22 years. They called this time of their lives their "Golden Years!"
After they had retired from that traveling John was stricken with Parkinson's disease from which he has suffered for 7 years. He went to be with the Lord peacefully at home in Wheat Ridge, Colorado, on April 17, at 8:44 p.m., surrounded by his loving family. Now he is free from pain and with the Lord, whom he loved!
His oldest son, John Wesley Croy II, preceded him in death in an accident at his work in February, 2002. He was 49 years of age. He was also preceded in death by his son-in-law, Charles Michael George, in February, 2013.
