John H. Dukes Jr., 79, Denver, CO, died February 8, 2022. He was a great dad, friend, brother, and grandpa. Someone who touched many lives.
He was born in Kansas City, Missouri, on October 31, 1942, to his parents John Henry Dukes Sr, and Velma Dukes. John was the oldest of seven siblings. John is proceeding in death by his brother Randall Dukes and survived by Percy Lamar Dukes, Vanessa Glenn, Charlotte Freelan, Gwen Dukes, Janora "Lee" Davis, and sister Ruth Yancey of Sedalia Missouri
John was a huge Chief's fan and finally got to see them win a Superbowl. John often told stories of making his own toys and sledding down the hill in Leeds Summit near Arrowhead Stadium with his best friend and Cousin Terry Parks. He could be found around town singing on the street corners with his quartet band or racing Gale Sayers during his youth.
He was an entrepreneur and businessman. Throughout his life, he successfully launched stores in downtown Denver and a dump truck hauling business called Big Red Hauling.
His crowning achievement was raising his five successful boys. Each of his sons is applying the lessons he taught them to their respective families. His sons are thankful for everything he has done for us, such as taking us on family road trips, attending our sporting events, being at graduations ceremonies, and picking us up when we were in trouble. Our dad was there for us no matter what.
John was proud of his five sons, James Garners, Steven Dukes, Christopher Dukes (Angela), John Dukes, and Charles Dukes (Cristal), all of Colorado. He is also survived by his grandchildren Kayla, Chloe, Makhi, Cyrus, and Camryn. He was left behind by a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, friends, and family
Any man can have a baby; it takes a real man to be a father. He will be missed, but his memory will live on forever.
