Born May 8th 1949 a Southern Boy from Columbus, Mississippi with a kind soul and a heart of gold. As such he was welcomed into this world by his parents the late Higdon and Annie Will Wilson Armstrong Sr John Henry was the third oldest of nine children. He was preceded in death by his two younger siblings, Joyce Ann Armstrong Coates and John Walter Gamble. He leaves to cherish his memory his sons, John Lewis Armstrong ( Lil John ), Lorenza ( Danielle & Grand Daughter Ehvangeline ) Armstrong, Lexis ( Tiffany & Grand Son Lexis ( LJ) Jr., Wash Tate, Daughters, Felicia Owens, Annie Will ( Honey ) Barfield, Oakland, California and special friend Terri Reed ( Armstrong ). John also leaves his four brothers, Higdon ( Pat ) Armstrong Jr, Eugene ( Debbie ) Armstrong, Merle Charles ( Renee ) Armstrong, Harry West ( Dionne ) Armstrong, New Orleans Louisiana and two sisters, Willie Anna Armstrong Robinson, Jamie Armstrong.
After relocating with the family to Denver, Colorado John attended Manual High School and later decided to pursue his culinary skills by attending Technical Training Culinary Art School in Ogden, Utah and continued to hone his talent until his untimely retirement from the Warwick Hotel, downtown Denver. While employed for over 29 years he received employee of the month multiple times and was in charge as a Chef, training younger employees as part of his daily tasks.
Speaking of tasks, John Henry learned the art of fishing from his mother and dad who had a real passion for it. So John Henry continued the tradition with his sons, Lorenza and Lexis at their favorite spot, John Martin along with other fishing holes.
John also without a doubt loved the lord and would preach to anyone that needed counseling in the faith as such. As a devoted member of the Lord and Friendship Baptist, John entered Ministry training in 2002 and was awarded Deacon status in 2007, he also was continuing that training towards becoming a full fledged Minister, under the direction of Pastor Paul Burleson of Friendship Baptist, until sickness prevented his further attendance. Sing, oh yes he loved to sing, he could hang with the best of them. When there was a family gathering, he would lead in prayer and song, not long after that he would have the whole room in the spirit of the lord.
Those that knew John Henry as he was fondly known, would tell you he was the type of person that would give you the shirt off his back. John loved to counsel the youth whenever the opportunity arose and as such he never tired. To know John Henry, was to love him. He will be missed on Earth but welcomed in Heaven. Be still no more, you've earned your Wings, Brother John Henry!
